Monday Making - the Purple edition

It's been a busy week here in my sewing room!
Who knew I'd be able to pull off a quilt top
AND a backing in one week????

It's a very improvisational quilt.....
so that helps me save some time.
When I quilt like this I do MINIMAL trimming and measuring.
;)

I was really dragging my feet about this one.
The recipient wanted a purple and black quilt.
;/
Those colors are NOT. me.

I pieced some scraps together HOPING to be inspired...
but I wasn't.

Eventually I took out some fabric and began making those big tall
TRIANGLES.

O.k. NOW we were getting somewhere.
I DO love what happened.
I was even able to use the pieced blocks in the back!!!
and I LOVE that TOO!!!!

This week...If I'm lucky.... I'll get going and make a
quilt SANDWICH and QUILT something!!
I have enough quilt TOPS!!

Do you take a DEEP breath before that step??
I do.

I included a picture with my husband's garden in the background.
Isn't it wonderful???
FRESH stuff here ALL the time.
The trick is USING it up!!!

Now it's YOUR turn.
What are YOU making this week???

Orange and green

The weather at my house feels like THIS!

Spring is in the air...
but the calendar isn't quite agreeing.
;)

There are so many things you can do with
Squares and Half square triangles.
The possibilities are ENDLESS!!!

Monday Making

I've been busy making little quilts.....

Table mats for an upcoming retreat
and auction.

This one used up a few 2" blue squares.
Even some little pieces from recycled shirts!!
Nothing goes to waste in MY sewing room!!!
;)

What are you up to this week??

I"m hoping to make another table mat!!!
What color(s) should I use next???

Some of my friends requested Christmas colors!
You MAY be seeing Christmas in February!!!
LOL!

Monday Making

I played with some of my 2" squares today.
(I have QUITE a collection!!)   ;)

After laying these 4 patches out in different arrangements....

I settled on this.

It's sometimes hard to make those design decisions!!!

I hope to add a border or two
and finish this as table mat #6!!!

What are you MAKING this week???

Vintage love

Old patchwork has me wrapped around her little finger!

When those bits and pieces come into my house....

I HAVE to make them into something!!

I removed the old muslin from these blocks
and replaced the aged and stained pieces for something fresh and clean.
;)

I also added this retro fabric on the back
that compliments these old blocks so well!!

I love playing with old blocks...
Don't you??

Monday Making

Hello friends!
What are you making this week??

I have had MANY appointments lately...
so my MAKING has had to be portable.

Knitting travels WELL!!

I've started another baby sweater.
Baby knits are the BEST!
Plus...
You get a finished product in so little time!
:)

This pattern looks fairly do-able...
for a simple minded knitter like myself.
Wish me LUCK as I clickety clack away in the waiting rooms!

Pattern I'm using is found here

Link up and share about YOUR homemade progress.

The oldest UFO

This is possibly the world's oldest UFO.
It came as a hand-me-down from an 80 year old friend.
It was in HER aunt's quilty project box
Have you seen those boxes???
They aren't rubbermaid folks!!!
LOL!

I am certain she was going to make a WONDERFUL quilt!!!
But...
she never got to it!

Friends...
She was hand piecing this one!!
The stitches are so tiny and pretty.
It was a shame to cover them up with the quilt sandwich!

I AM sure though that she would be happy knowing
her once upon a time project
is now a SOMETHING that SOMEONE can USE!!!

There were LOTS of these half square triangle pieces.
There are four attached here.
ALL I did was applique a muslin square right on TOP!!
Then it was quilt, backing and binding!!
You know the drill.

The fabric is old and a little fragile.
Oh....and there are a few age stains!!

That's o.k.
Those old age spots just say
"USE ME!!!"
;)
And I WILL!!!

There is more treasure in the box.
I'll be BUSY!!!
